The Holy Synod of the ROC calls for restoration of the institution of military clergy ( 13.04.2006 )

The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has expressed its support for the potential restoration of the institution of military clergy in the Russian army.

 

“the positive experience in the Fatherland and in the world attests to it that the restoration of the institution of military clergy can be beneficial for the country and the society. Today, in the Russian army the clergymen of the traditional religions in Russia could participate in the spiritual, moral and patriotic education of the soldiers. We believe that the active work of the clergy in the army will help decrease the number of suicide, disregard of man’s personality and other illegal actions”, writes in the statement.

 

“the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church calls the state, the society and all the traditional religions in Russia to restore the institution of military clergy with a joint effort”, sum up the hierarchs who have signed the document.
