Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople on a visit to Brazil ( 17.07.2006 )

On Thursday, 13 July 2006, patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople departed for Brazil. According to the greek church news agency, His Holiness is participating at the congress “The Amazon River Valley—Source of Life”, organized under the auspices of the Constantinopolitan Patriarchate and UNO’s Secretary-General Kofi Annan. The Forum’s objective is to draw the international public attention to the ecological problems of the basins of the world’s greatest river, the Amazon. Among these problems are deforestation and water pollution, as well as uncontrolled use of irreplaceable natural resources. Patriarch bartholomew’s visit to Brazil is to last until july 21.
