Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kiril, elected for the Moscow Patriarchy throne ( 27.01.2009 )

This evening, at January the 27th, 2009, at the cathedral of the Lord Jesus Christ the Saviour, the results of the elections for the new Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia has been published. By Decision of the General Assembly, Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kiril, was elected for the Moscow Patriarchy throne. As the resident of the Commission for counting the votes, Metropolitan of Ekaterinodarsk and Cuba Isidor, 702 delegates of the Assembly took place in privy voting. The number of the tickets after the voting was confirmed at 700, 677 of which were regular and 27 were declared as irregular.

 

The results of the voting showed that the Patriarchate Throne Keeper, Metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad Kiril got 508 votes, and the Metropolitan of Kaluzh and Borovo Kliment got 169 votes.

The participants of the General Assembly applauding saluted the announcement about the election of Metropolitan Kiril as a Patriarch of the Russian Orthodox Church.
