First Divine Liturgy served entirely in English at St Catherine the Great Martyr Church ( 29.03.2009 )

On Saturday, March 28, 2009, Archimandrite Zacchaeus, Dean of St. Catherine the Great Martyr Church, together with Hierodeacon Makary, visiting from Moscow’s Sretensky Monastery concelebrated the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom entirely in the English language. The service was sung by staff members of the US Embassy in Moscow who are practicing Orthodox Christians. Praying at the service were Orthodox Americans, Russian students studying English, and interested parishioners of St. Catherine Church.

Following the service, Archimandrite Zacchaeus congratulated the parish prosphora baker, Ludmilla on the occasion of her 70th birthday and presented her with a bouquet of flowers on behalf of the parish.

It is hoped that an English language Divine Liturgy will be served at least once a month at the parish to minister to the needs of Orthodox Christians who have English as their native tongue and also as a missionary tool for those English speakers who are not yet familiar with the Orthodox Church.
